IRENE WEATHER STATION

The Irene Weather Office is situated at the Agricultural Research Council grounds outside Irene, Gauteng region. This office consists of METSYS (focussing on the technical development of instrumentation and radar, and the basic maintenance of the Electronic Weather Observation System (EWOS)), an observations component responsible for upper air, surface and automatic weather station observations and daily ozone soundings and observations, as well as a training component, that provides for the practical observations training for both forecasting and observations students. This office also has a weather radar erected, and regular visits by school groups take place during the year.
